The best words of the day
The Prophet ﷺ said: “The best supplication is the supplication of the Day of Arafah, and the best thing that I and the prophets before me have said is: There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He has power over all things.”
Each chain on its own has weakness (the Darussalam edition of at-Tirmidhi marks this one weak), but al-Albani and others judged the narration sound because the chains support each other. The words of the dhikr itself are authentic in many other hadiths.

No number for this dhikr is set in the Sunnah for the Day of Arafah. Say it as much as you can; a goal is only there to help you keep going.
How to make du'a on Arafah
- Start by praising Allah and sending blessings on the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ heard a man make du'a without doing this and said he had been hasty, then taught that one should begin with praise of Allah and blessings on the Prophet ﷺ (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3477).
- Face the qiblah and raise your hands. The Prophet ﷺ raised his hands at Arafat (Sunan an-Nasa'i 3011), and said Allah is too generous to turn away hands raised to Him empty (Sunan Abi Dawud 1488).
- Ask with certainty. “Call on Allah while being certain of an answer” (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3479, graded hasan by al-Albani through supporting chains).
- Repeat your du'a. When the Prophet ﷺ made du'a, he often repeated it three times (Sahih Muslim 1794).
- Do not give up. A du'a is answered as long as a person does not say “I prayed and was not answered” (Sahih al-Bukhari 6340). The answer may come as what you asked for, as protection from harm, or as reward saved for the Hereafter.
- Pray for others by name. When you pray for someone who is absent, an angel says: “And for you the same” (Sahih Muslim 2732).
- Ask in your own words too. Arabic du'as from the Qur'an and Sunnah are best, but Allah understands every language. Ask for your real needs in the words that come from your heart.

The master of seeking forgiveness

The du'a taught to Abu Bakr
Allāhumma innī ẓalamtu nafsī ẓulman kathīrā, wa lā yaghfirudh-dhunūba illā ant, faghfir lī maghfiratan min ʿindik, warḥamnī, innaka antal-Ghafūrur-Raḥīm

Allāhumma aṣliḥ lī dīniyal-ladhī huwa ʿiṣmatu amrī, wa aṣliḥ lī dunyāyal-latī fīhā maʿāshī, wa aṣliḥ lī ākhiratil-latī fīhā maʿādī, wajʿalil-ḥayāta ziyādatan lī fī kulli khayr, wajʿalil-mawta rāḥatan lī min kulli sharr
O Allah, set right my religion, which keeps my affairs safe; set right my worldly life, in which I live; set right my hereafter, to which I return. Make life an increase for me in every good, and make death a rest for me from every evil.

Questions people ask
What is the best du'a for the Day of Arafah?
The Prophet ﷺ said the best thing he and the prophets before him said on Arafah is: “Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-ḥamd, wa huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr” (at-Tirmidhi 3585, graded hasan by al-Albani).
Is there a fixed du'a I must recite on Arafah?
No. There is no fixed du'a you must say. You can ask Allah for anything good, in any language. Du'as from the Qur'an and the Sunnah are best, alongside your own personal requests.
When is the best time for du'a on the Day of Arafah?
The whole day is a time of du'a. Many scholars encourage giving the afternoon, from ʿAsr until sunset, the most attention, because that is when the Prophet ﷺ was standing in du'a at Arafat.
